Mammogram
3D mammography, also known as breast tomosynthesis, is an FDA-approved advanced technology that captures multiple X-ray images of breast tissue to generate a three-dimensional breast picture. Unlike traditional mammography, which provides only a single image, 3D mammography produces several clear images of breast tissue slices, enhancing doctors' ability to detect breast masses and making it easier to identify breast cancer.
Before the procedure
Please inform us if you have breast implants. On the day of your mammogram, do not wear deodorant, antiperspirant, lotions, perfumes, or powders on your breasts or under your arms, as these can affect the clarity of the images.
What to expect during the procedure
After changing into a robe, you will stand in front of the 3D mammography unit. The technologist will position each breast, one at a time, between two plates to ensure a uniform thickness for clear imaging. You may feel slight pressure for a few seconds. The X-ray arm will move at a slight angle over your breast to capture a series of images.
